In Spain, EFE reported that Spanish airline association (ALA) estimates that airlines will pay an additional cost of $243 million in 2025 for the use of 2% of sustainable aviation fuel SAF in Spain. ALA recalls that in 2025 the European SAF mandate ReFuelEU Aviation -will begin to apply, which establishes SAF use quotas ranging from 2% in 2025 to 70% in 2050. Specifically, ALA points out that the additional costs that airlines in the EU will have to bear in 2030 – when the SAF quota will rise to 6% and 1.2% synthetic SAF will be introduced – will rise to around $9.86 billion. The association is calling for “production incentives to scale up its development and reduce its price differential with respect to conventional kerosene.”
