In Kenya, The East African newspaper reports that African airlines are calling foul on the European Commission for forcing them to comply with rules that include filling up with sustainable aviation fuel when departing from European airports, saying that the price of the fuel will run them aground. Some smaller airlines such as Uganda Airlines and Air Tanzania who are just starting to service European airports in 2025 are seen the hardest hit, but larger carriers such as Ethiopian and Kenya Airways are also complaining, saying they should be exempt from the rules or the fuel should be subsidized for them.
