Aduro Clean Technologies and Cleanfarms ink MOU for agricultural plastics recycle

May 11, 2025 |

In Ontario, Aduro Clean Technologies and Cleanfarms Inc. signed an MOU to collaborate on developing a commercial pathway for difficult-to-recycle agricultural plastics. They will assess the technical and commercial feasibility of Aduro’s Hydrochemolytic Technology (HCT) as a solution for chemical recycling of on-farm plastic waste like silage film and bale wrap.

These plastics are challenging due to contamination. Canada’s agricultural sector generates an estimated 62,000 tonnes annually, much of which is not conventionally managed. The collaboration involves three phases: Phase A is lab testing on representative samples, Phase B is scale-up at Aduro’s pilot plant and process modeling, and Phase C is contingent on success and involves Aduro’s Demonstration Plant.

HCT uses water at relatively low temperatures to convert low-value feedstocks into resources. The goal is to convert these plastics into usable hydrocarbon products, supporting improved diversion and resource recovery.
