In Brazil, Acelen has partnered with MulticanaPlus, a company specialized in research and development of plant micropropagation protocols and cloning of elite macaúba plants. The goal is to create genetically identical copies of higher plants. This process will allow the faithful reproduction of the desired characteristics, such as resistance to stress, high productive potential and other specific attributes. In this way, it will promote the uniformity of the plantings and the maintenance of the desired characteristics, contributing to the advancement and improvement of macaúba crops. The research and development of this protocol of micropropagation of macaúba seedlings are unprecedented in the world and represents an important step for the production of a promising crop.
The biorefining project that is part of the PAC, announced in August, will have enormous relevance to put Brazil at the forefront of the energy transition. With an investment of another R$ 12 billion in the coming years, Acelen will plant macaúba on 180,000 hectares, privileging degraded areas to produce 1 billion liters of renewable diesel and sustainable aviation kerosene per year. The project will generate 90,000 direct and indirect jobs, 70% of which are perennial and will benefit thousands of family farmers.
