In Singapore, the CMA CGM Iron, the first of the French shipping company’s twelve 13,000 TEU dual-fuel methanol containerships built by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, made its maiden call at the Port of Singapore on March 4 as part of  CMA CGM’s fleet expansion.

The vessel, designed to run on methanol and conventional fuel, is the first in a series set for delivery in 2025 and 2026. Sister ships CMA CGM Cobalt, Argon, Platinum, Mercury, Helium, Krypton, Thorium, Osmium, Silver, Copper, and Gold will enter service progressively.

The CMA CGM Iron will be deployed on the CIMEX1 service, linking Asia to the Middle East Gulf region. The ships were developed in partnership with Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries as dual-fuel propulsion gains traction in container shipping. and

“Thanks to our long-standing collaboration with the South Korean shipyard Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, we have met the challenge of this new propulsion system. This feat of engineering brings us closer to the Net Zero Carbon goal, complementing our dual-fuel gas-powered vessels,” said Xavier Leclercq, Vice-President in charge of Newbuilding at CMA CGM.
