Hafnia to receive dual-fuel methanol tankers

December 12, 2024 |

In Greece, Safety4Sea reports Hafnia, in partnership with joint-venture Socatra, announced the first of four 49,800 dwt dual-fuel methanol Medium-Range tankers will be delivered in January 2025 following construction and sea trials at Guangzhou Shipyard International in China. The vessels, capable of running on both methanol and conventional fuels, are designed to support the transition to greener fuel options as methanol availability increases.

The remaining three ships are scheduled for delivery throughout 2025, with the fourth expected in 2026. These ships are equipped with additional features for improved efficiency and reduced environmental impact, including preparations for shore power connections and space for potential wind-assisted propulsion systems like rotor sails.

The vessels will be time-chartered to TotalEnergies under a multi-year agreement, strengthening Hafnia’s role in providing sustainable shipping solutions. This marks a significant step in integrating dual-fuel technology into Hafnia’s fleet, enhancing its operational flexibility and environmental performance.
