Thakkar created the lampshades—appropriately named Veggie Lights—by converting the cabbage into a paper she calls Fiber Flats, which are then soaked in a natural preservative. Each lampshade is different because of variations in the leaves, which create a lamp that emits more natural light. The base is conventional, so the biodegradable lampshades can be replaced as they age.
