In Canada, cannabis and hemp major Canopy Growth Corporation has acquired KeyLeaf Life Sciences, a plant-based ingredient extractor based in Saskatoon, for an undisclosed sum.

“Canopy has utilized KeyLeaf’s decades of success in plant-based extraction and innovation for some time and bringing our two parties closer is an indication of how successful our partnership has been,” says Dr. Rick Green, President of Intellectual Capital Generation. “Expanding our relationship advances Saskatchewan to center stage in the global marketplace for plant extracts and natural products.”

KeyLeaf was founded in 1977 as POS Pilot Plant Corporation with a 54,000 square foot research facility at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. The company has since completed 5,400 projects for clients in food research, nutraceuticals, biobased products, and cannabis and hemp. It has also since added a processing facility in Batavia, Illinois and made commercialization of plant-based extracts, including CBD, its core activity.
