In Maine, entrepreneur Mariah Curtis has developed a personal lubricant made of local seaweed.
“This is a personal and massage lubricant that can be used for any sort of sexual activity,” Curtis tells WGME. “It’s for any part of your body you want to have slick or wet for any reason.”
Dubbed Sea ME lube, the formula is made from Irish moss, but still needs FDA approval to be sold commercially. Irish moss is already present in small amounts in some sexual lubricant formulations.
“I wouldn’t call this an invention so much as a personal formula. I just have a unique approach that is more natural and sustainable than what’s currently available,” Curtis adds.
She is currently working on natural scents and flavorings that could be added to the lube. “I’m currently in the market research phase for that,” she says.
