In Europe, pressure-sensitive label materials maker UPM Raflatac has launched a plant-based polyethylene film for home and personal care products.

RafBio PE film can be used for squeezable bottles and contoured containers and reduces greenhouse gas emissions more than 80% compared to fossil-based alternatives. The PE is made from sugarcane ethanol.

“Our RafBio range is another significant step on our journey towards a more sustainable future,” UPM Raflatac films EMEIA segment manager Päivi Knihti, tells Packaging Materials. “It will help our customers to reduce their dependence on fossil raw materials and differentiate themselves from the competition by demonstrating a desire to improve their environmental performance.”
