In California, UGG, a brand best known for its popular and soft sheepskin boots, has introduced a vegan version of its eponymous shoe.

Developed in collaboration with Collina Strada, the vegan UGGs come in several styles and colors and are made using sugarcane, wood-based fiber TENCEL, and recycled polyester microfibers.

According to vegconomist, the global vegan shoe market reached $41 billion. The outlet also noted UGG won praise from PETA, which has long lobbied the shoemaker to ditch sheepskin. “UGG’s new vegan boots are a step in the right direction,” said PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is celebrating this victory for sheep and urging UGG to give wool the boot by making all its footwear animal-friendly.”
