In South Korea, K-pop supergroup BLACKPINK has announced its latest album, BORN PINK, will also be green. The highly anticipated sophomore album, which was two years in the making, is expected to do well, judging by their aggressive 2022-23 tour schedule and the explosion of interest in K-pop genre. But as ambassadors for climate change, the quartet was concerned about the waste generated by the physical albums. Packaging will use low-carbon paper, cornstarch plastic wrap, and soybean oil-based ink.

According to record label YG Entertainment, there will be a CD-less version made of biodegradable plastic for fans that want to access the album online but also have the album sleeve and other fan materials. The album can be reserved online but will not be released until September 16.
