In Colorado, alternative protein pet food startup Bond Pet Foods has added Australian singer Sia to its stable of investors.

Founded in 2017, Bond Pet Foods has been using ingredients like pea protein and peanut butter to make plant-based dog food, and recently moved into cultivated meat. It has claimed the world’s first cultured chicken for pet food.

“As a devout animal and environmental advocate, I’m inspired by Bond Pet Foods’ mission and believe their company is the future for sustainably led protein in pet food,” the nine-time Grammy winner says in a press statement. “If America’s dogs and cats were their own country, their consumption of meat products alone would rank fifth in the world. I am eager to lend my voice and support to a brand that’s re-imagining a cruelty-free future for all animals.”

Bond says the cells it used to make its chicken came from a hen named Inga, who is alive and well in Kansas. It hopes to launch cultured pet food in the second half of 2023.
