In Germany, sneaker giant adidas will soon introduce a sneaker in its popular Stan Smith line that incorporates mushroom-based leather.

First launched in 1965, the lifestyle sneaker is named after the retired tennis superstar and is among the brand’s most popular and recognizable designs. The new Stan Smith Mylo uses Mylo vegan leather manufactured by Bolt Threads as the upper portion.

“The introduction of Mylo as a new material is a major step forward in our bold ambition to help end plastic waste,” says Amy Johns Vaterlaus, Adidas’ global head of future. “[The Stan Smith Mylo was] designed in synergy with Earth’s ecosystems. As a brand, we continue to explore the possibilities in material innovation.”

The company has not released information about price or launch date.
