In Ontario, KFC Canada will trial the use poutine buckets made from bamboo fiber.

Set to launch in select restaurants in early 2020, the buckets are part of the eatery’s efforts to reduce its use of single-use plastic. It also aims to source 100% of its fiber-based packaging from certified or recycled sources by 2020 and remove all plastic straws and bags by the end of this year—eliminating 50 million straws and 10 million plastic bags.

Bamboo is among the most popular options for replacing packaging because it grows quickly—about 25 inches per day.
