In Singapore, Arkema has chosen Jurong Island to build a manufacturing facility for its biobased amino 11 monomer and Rilsan polyamide 11 resins, which are derived from castor oil. Applications include electronics, 3D printing, oil and gas extraction, and automotive markets.
The plant, originally announced in July 2017, will increase global capacity for Rilsan by 50%. It will also support demand in Asia for materials that are high-performing, biobased, and offer lightweighting advantages.
Jurong Island offers advantages in terms of infrastructure, logistics, industrial integration and operational excellence, as well as optimization of the activity’s carbon footprint, Arkema says.
“This major investment bolsters our global presence in bio-sourced materials while bringing us significantly closer to our customers in Asia,” says Erwoan Pezron, Global Group President for Arkema’s Technical Polymers business line. “Singapore’s industrial and innovation-friendly environment, we believe, is a key asset for our project.”
