In France, Deinove has successfully produced its first batch of renewable, fermentation-based carotenoids for cosmetics use.

Scale-up was announced in December and was carried out at the BIOGIS Center at SAS PIVERT. Extraction, purification, and formulation was done in collaboration with PROCESSIUM and VEG’EXTRA. After a technology transfer stage, the first production consisting of several cubic meters was successfully completed.

The commercial launch is planned for the beginning of the 2nd quarter of 2018. The company is finalizing efficacy and consumer tests to validate product claims and support its sales team.

The carotenoid is formulated in a biological vegetable oil for use in skincare creams. DEINOVE, which discovers, develops, and produces high-value compounds from rare bacteria such as Deinococcus,  estimates the addressable market for the ingredient at $1.6 billion.
