In Japan, Mazda is expanding the use of bioplastics in exterior car components, including larger parts such as grills. Mazda developed the bioplastic and has so far used it in smaller,  interior trim on the fourth-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata as well as in the CX-9, reports Left Lane News.

Mazda has improved the bioplastic’s formability and weather-resistance to the point it can be used on larger, more complex, and external elements.

The technology is currently on display at Ecopro 2017 in Tokyo.
