In South Carolina, Michelin is expanding on the sustainability of cars by focusing on a new tire made of fully biodegradable biomaterials and utilizing 3D printing technology. The new Vision tire isn’t filled with air like regular tires, but is designed with a super strong honeycomb or lung-like structure. The tire can’t explode or blowout on the road since it isn’t filled with pressurized air, further differentiating it from the rest.

Michelin also applies the rubber tread to the outside of the tire so the tread could be changed based on the driving needs and replaced as it wears down. To step it up a notch, it is a smart tire with sensors that send the driver information on its condition via a mobile app. Don’t ask your local tire dealer to scoop some up for you quite yet as it’s still in the concept phase and Michelin hasn’t disclosed plans on when it might be brought to market.
