In California, Omicia, which provides software tools for fast processing and analyzing of genomic data, acquired Seattle, Washington based Spiral Genetics. Spiral Genetics develops tools to detect genetic variants for next generation sequencing. Their technology is used by labs, life science companies and various country sequencing programs, while Omicia’s technology has been used in over 1,000 labs, hospitals, research institutions and population sequencing initiatives. Omicia is also getting Spiral’s data compression technology and population specific reference genomes.
Matt Tindall, CEO of Omicia told Business Wire “The strategic integration of Spiral’s technologies effectively cements Omicia’s leadership position in precision medicine. By removing the need to access multiple software platforms, Omicia improves quality, accuracy and turnaround time, removing major bottlenecks for clinical adoption. Spiral brings a world-class team of commercial leaders, computer scientists and computational biologists with deep expertise in large-scale genome analysis and algorithm development, as well as proven technology and customers.”
