In Texas, the BDO Zone Initiative has issued an ‘AA’ rated BDO Zone designation for Bon Wier, Texas for 2,000,000 green tons per year of woody biomass. ‘AA’ and ‘A’ BDO Zone ratings identify the areas in the country which are best positioned for low-risk bioeconomy project development. Bon Wier’s ‘AA’ Rating for Forest Residues, […]
The race is on. It was a race to lower carbon aviation. Now it is a race for Net Zero. Ultimately, as we have tipped, it will become a race for carbon negative aviation because only when a jet becomes a Hoover in the skies, reducing carbon with every flight, will airlines and travelers be […]
Growth Energy released a study conducted by ABF Economics that found that nationwide access to E15, a 15 percent ethanol blended fuel, could save drivers billions in annual fuel costs, create new jobs, and return billions to the U.S. economy. Specifically, the data show that a nationwide transition to E15 would save consumers $20.6 billion […]
News arrives from Colorado that BOTTLE consortia researchers led by NREL have developed a process that can convert mixed plastics to a single chemical product, working toward a solution that would allow recyclers to skip sorting plastic by type. Combining chemical and biological processes is a promising new strategy for the valorization of mixed plastic waste — yes, […]
A barrel of strategic equity has landed on the Infinium square of the bioMonopoly board, this one from South Korea, the Land of Morning Calm. SK Innovation (part of the SK group, one of Korea’s most formidable chaebol conglomerates), to step up and send this interesting company right into front row in the race for electrofuels at scale. It has […]
If you’ve been around the renewable fuels movement, lately the renewable fuels industry, for any length of time, you’ve seen quite a few advocates and champions debunking what they contend are untrue urban legends. Indirect Land Use Change, ethanol’s return on energy invested, claims of engine damage from use of renewables, the list is long […]
News has arrived from North Carolina that Honeywell UOP is deploying a new ethanol-to-jet fuel (ETJ) processing technology that allows producers to convert corn-based, cellulosic, or sugar-based ethanol into sustainable aviation fuel. Depending on the type of ethanol feedstock used, jet fuel produced from Honeywell’s ethanol-to-jet fuel process can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80% […]
We’ve long admired NEXT Renewable Fuels, developing one of the largest renewable diesel and plants in the nation, at Port Westward, near Clastskanie, on the Columbia River west of Portland. The Energizer Bunny could take lessons from these guys. They just keep beating the bioeconomy project development drum, no matter what. Last month, they broke […]
When in doubt, start a Center. That’s been an academic formula for a long time, but there are good reasons for doubt in the presence of so much biological innovation. How to best optimize feedstocks, how to best design biomanufacturing, how to select the best molecules to make. The world is hurtling towards Net Zero, […]
From the wilds of southwestern Wyoming and Oklahoma comes welcome news. As we reported last week, Raven SR and Emerging Fuels Technology signed a landmark MOU to integrate their respective technologies into an advanced system for producing sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel. Let’s look at it in more detail today. The platform combines Raven […]
