Hanwha Ocean wins order for three ammonia carriers worth $350 million

In South Korea, Today Energy reports that Hanwha Ocean has received an order for three very large ammonia carriers from an African shipowner valued at approximately 507.4 billion won ($350 million at current rates), with deliveries scheduled through January 2030.

The order brings Hanwha Ocean’s cumulative ammonia carrier orderbook to 10 vessels. The company received basic approval for ammonia carrier technology from Bureau Veritas and Lloyd’s Register in 2022 and last year began developing a 150,000 CBM class very large ammonia carrier with Korea Register.

Hanwha Ocean has booked approximately $3.2 billion in orders so far this year across 18 vessels, including 10 VLCCs, four LNG carriers, the three ammonia carriers, and one wind turbine installation vessel.
