European ethanol market seen tightening with continued volatility as biofuel policies kick in in 2020
In the Netherlands, Platts reports that the European spot ethanol market has experienced volatility over the past several months due to reliance on imports, a trend that is not expected to change going into 2020 has a tight market mixed with historically high prices runs up against higher mandates in much of Europe as countries rush to comply with the European Renewable Directive I’s 10% blending mandate for 2020 and RED II’s targets through 2030. The Fuel Quality Directive’s 6% reduction of carbon intensity of fuels compared to 2010 level by 2020 will also b a driver.
