MOL, CMB.TECH name three ammonia dual-fuel bulk carriers
In China, Japan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines and Belgium’s CMB.TECH named the world’s first three ammonia dual-fuel Capesize bulk carriers Oct. 29 at Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding in Qingdao, Shandong province, ahead of deliveries beginning in early 2027.
The vessels, Ruri Mirai, Ruri Sekai and Ruri Hikari, each have two 3,000 cubic meter ammonia fuel tanks.
MOL and CMB.TECH will jointly own the ships, with MOL chartering and operating them. The Japanese shipping company is developing operating procedures and safety measures for the vessels ahead of their introduction into commercial service.
