Indonesia pilots used cooking oil-to-aviation fuel initiative
In Indonesia, Antara reported that the Indonesian government is promoting the production of sustainable aviation fuel by utilizing used cooking oil collected through businesses operated by cooperatives under the Red and White Village Cooperatives (KDMP) program.
In cooperation with state-owned energy company Pertamina, the Cooperatives Ministry recently launched a pilot project involving four village cooperatives in Banyumas District, Central Java.
“This project could serve as a model for KDMPs across the country. The used cooking oil collected will be sold to PT Pertamina Patra Niaga to be processed into aviation fuel, which will then be supplied to the aviation sector,” Cooperatives Minister Ferry Juliantono said.
He also highlighted the initiative’s potential to open up opportunities for sustainable aviation fuel exports.
Juliantono added that the pilot project uses a business model designed to generate profits for cooperatives and their members while creating opportunities for green businesses in rural areas.
