Shell secures long-term SAF offtake agreement for planned Moroccan plant
In Morocco, Morocco World News reports Shell has signed an exclusive long-term offtake agreement with Green Sky Manara for renewable fuels from a planned production facility at Nador West Med Port in Morocco. The agreement gives Shell rights to approximately 150,000 metric tons per year of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), or an equivalent volume of hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), alongside bionaphtha and biopropane. The facility is designed to produce up to 200,000 tons annually using waste-based feedstocks and Axens’ HEFA technology, with operations scheduled to begin in October 2028. Shell’s agreement covers around three-quarters of the plant’s planned maximum output, providing a significant prospective customer ahead of construction and financing decisions. The project has an estimated investment cost of $239 million, with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development considering financing of up to $105 million.
