China’s green methanol network expands to nine ports

October 28, 2026 |

In China, green methanol bunkering has expanded to nine coastal ports, including Hong Kong, supported by a domestic network covering fuel production, supply, storage and delivery to ships, according to a Ministry of Transport report.

Shanghai Port alone has bunkered nearly 40,000 tonnes of green methanol to date in 2026, figures presented at the North Bund International Shipping Forum on Oct. 21 showed.

The forum also presented the world’s largest methanol dual-fuel container ship, Dongfang Zhihui, a 3,800-cubic-meter liquid carbon dioxide and LPG carrier, and a white paper on onboard carbon capture systems.

Development targets and a roadmap were released for the Shanghai-Hamburg green shipping corridor, together with an implementation outline for a Shanghai-Melbourne corridor.
