Keppel appointed Singapore’s aggregator for 120MW of biomethane
In Singapore, Keppel Ltd, through its Infrastructure Division (Keppel), has been appointed by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) to aggregate, import and sell up to 120 MW of biomethane in Singapore under the Nation’s 300 MW Biomethane Sandbox initiative for 15 years. As the first of its kind in Southeast Asia, the initiative will help Singapore explore energy transition and diversification using biomethane as one of the pathways.
Expected to commence by end-2028, the imported biomethane will be handled with natural gas as an aggregated fuel portfolio for Keppel’s advanced combined cycle gas turbine plants on Jurong Island, as well as supplied to end-use customers.
The lower carbon intensity power can then be supplied to both industrial and advanced manufacturers, as well as data centre operators, including Keppel’s Connectivity Division, which has been provisionally awarded 50 MW of new data centre capacity under Singapore’s second Data Centre – Call for Application. This will not only help Keppel fulfil its sustainability commitments, but also support other customers in meeting their needs for commercially competitive decarbonisation solutions.
