Canadian ethanol plant’s wastewater treatment system gets 98% removal

October 21, 2026 |

In Canada, Miranda Water Technologies Inc. recently announced the successful completion of an industrial wastewater treatment pilot at Kawartha Ethanol’s facility in Havelock, Ontario. The project used Miranda’s MC200 Miracell® Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC) system as part of Kawartha Ethanol’s broader waste-stream recovery initiative, achieving greater than 98% removal of targeted contaminants under the tested operating conditions. Based on these results, Kawartha Ethanol has agreed to purchase the MC200 Miracell® RBC system, together with additional Miranda treatment technologies designed to further enhance the overall treatment process.

The project marks Miranda’s first deployment of its Miracell® RBC technology in the North American specialized industrial wastewater market, expanding the application of the technology to high-strength biological treatment. The final solution will combine biological treatment with additional Miranda filtration and treatment technologies to address the specific characteristics of Kawartha Ethanol’s industrial waste stream.
