China expands waste oil processing for SAF production
In Ukraine, UkrAgroConsult reported that China is preparing to expand exports of sustainable aviation fuel to the European Union and Southeast Asian markets.
According to the report, Zhejiang Jianglan Biotechnology is building a plant on Liuheng Island in Zhejiang province with an annual production capacity of 225,000 tons of SAF. The facility has already secured overseas presale orders worth more than $150 million. Construction is approximately 50% complete, with trial production scheduled to begin by the end of March 2027, the report added.
The new plant will process up to 320,000 tons of used cooking oil and other bio-based feedstocks annually to produce aviation fuel using HEFA technology. The project will employ Haldor Topsoe’s hydroisomerization technology, which, according to the company, delivers a product yield of 80%, compared with the industry average of 70%.
