Pemex seeks to produce SAF at the Pajaritos complex

October 20, 2026 |

In Mexico, Expansion reported that Mexicaon oil firm Pemex is studying the possibility of producing SAF in Veracruz with a 5,000-barrel-per-day plant.

The state-owned oil company began a feasibility study last week to evaluate the construction of its first biorefinery at the Pajaritos petrochemical complex in Coatzacoalcos, according to the report.

The study, whose results Pemex expects to present in February 2027, will allow for an estimation of the resources needed to develop the plant and an evaluation of the technical conditions for producing the fuel, the report added.

“At Pemex, we have already begun the first technical feasibility study for a biorefinery projected to be built in the southeast of the country. The estimated capacity we intend to design for that plant is 5,000 barrels per day,” said Jorge García De La Cruz, Deputy Director of Technologies and Alternative Energies at Pemex.
