Guangzhou Port completes first terminal-based green methanol bunkering

October 16, 2026 |

In Greece, Safety4Sea reported that Guangzhou Port has completed its first green methanol bunkering operation alongside a terminal, marking a further step in the expansion of alternative-fuel supply infrastructure in China.

The bunkering, carried out on 28 September at the Nansha port area, saw 281.6 metric tonnes of green methanol supplied to the COSCO Shipping Carnation.

The fuel was delivered by the Da Qing 268, a methanol dual-fuel oil and chemical bunkering vessel operated by China Shipping & Sinopec Suppliers (Sinobunker). The vessel is described as China’s first bunkering ship of its kind and has a total tank capacity of 10,362 cubic meters, according to the report.

According to Guangzhou Port Group, the port has already carried out anchorage-based green methanol bunkering, as well as terminal-based LNG bunkering for international roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) vessels and bulk carriers since the beginning of the year.

With the latest operation, Guangzhou Port says it can now provide alternative-fuel bunkering services for container ships, bulk carriers and ro-ro vessels, the report added.
