CBOT soybean oil futures fall as EPA biofuel proposal unsettles markets

October 15, 2026 |

In Illinois, Platts reports Chicago Board of Trade December soybean oil futures fell 1.34% to 67.11 cents per pound on October 14, extending losses amid uncertainty over U.S. biofuel policy and the soybean harvest. The previous day, the EPA proposed reallocating 100% of renewable-fuel obligations waived through small-refinery exemptions—approximately 770 million additional Renewable Identification Numbers. However, traders were disappointed that implementation timing remains unresolved. Meanwhile, the U.S. soybean harvest reached 46% completion as of October 11, adding seasonal pressure to oilseed markets.
