Hyundai Engineering to develop hydrogen production technology using renewable energy

October 15, 2026 |

In South Korea, Maeil Business reported that Hyundai Engineering will develop hydrogen production technology using renewable energy.

The firm announced that it will participate in the “Renewable Energy-Grid Change Response Water Electrolysis System Technology Development Project” promoted by the Korea Energy Technology Evaluation Institute under the Ministry of Climate and Energy and Environment.

This project is a national project to build and demonstrate a hybrid water electrolysis plant that combines two water electrolysis methods. Water electrolysis is a technology that uses electricity to break down water into hydrogen and oxygen, according to the report.

An alkaline (ALK) method, which is relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and a polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) method that may quickly respond to power changes are used together. Through this, the goal is to produce hydrogen stably and reduce costs even if wind power generation changes irregularly, the report added.
