YPF to start producing SAF in Santa Fe
Santa Fe Bio—a joint venture between YPF and Essential Energy—and TOTSA TotalEnergies Trading SA have signed a long-term purchase agreement for the future production of sustainable aviation fuel and other renewable fuels to be manufactured at the San Lorenzo biorefinery in the province of Santa Fe, Argentina.
This agreement marks a key milestone for the project’s development and financing under a project finance structure; it provides the commercial predictability needed to advance the engineering and development stages of a facility designed to meet the growing global demand for renewable fuels, YPF said.
The future biorefinery is expected to have an annual production capacity of approximately 170,000 tons of SAF and HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil), primarily destined for international markets. Under this arrangement, TOTSA TotalEnergies Trading SA will purchase the majority of this output under a firm long-term commitment and will hold a right of first refusal on the remaining volumes, YPF added.
The initiative entails investments exceeding $400 million to convert the San Lorenzo industrial complex.
