Hapag-Lloyd completes first simultaneous biomethanol bunkering

October 7, 2026 |

In South Korea, Hapag-Lloyd has completed its first simultaneous operations bunkering of certified biomethanol supplied by China’s Goldwind to the Seaspan Amazon at the Port of Busan, allowing the vessel to receive fuel as other ship and port activities continued.

The ISCC EU-certified biomethanol was produced at Goldwind’s integrated facility in Inner Mongolia, China, and delivered through an international supply chain.

The operation builds on a 2024 fuel supply agreement under which Goldwind is expected to provide 250,000 metric tons annually of a blend of biomethanol and e-methanol beginning in late 2027.

Hapag-Lloyd said the early delivery provides operational and logistical experience ahead of larger fuel supplies and the introduction of additional methanol capable vessels.
