Petrobras forecasts an “intense increase” in SAF production
In Chile, BNamericas reported that Brazil’s Petrobras intends to increase the production of sustainable aviation fuel in a “very intensive” manner, according to Angélica Laureano, the state-owned company’s executive director for logistics, marketing and markets.
According to Laureano, Petrobras already has a final investment decision for a SAF production unit using the HEFA route at the Presidente Bernardes Refinery (RPBC) in Cubatão, São Paulo, while it evaluates a new plant at the Paulínia Refinery (Replan) in the same state, using alcohol-to-jet (ATJ) technology.
The company began marketing SAF produced by co-processing at the Duque de Caxias Refinery (Reduc), in Rio de Janeiro, in 2025. The first deliveries were destined for Tom Jobim International Airport, in the same municipality, according to the report.
Petrobras carried out SAF production tests by coprocessing at the Henrique Lage Refinery (Revap), in São José dos Campos, São Paulo. The company reported that Replan and the Gabriel Passos Refinery (Regap), in Minas Gerais, were also scheduled to begin production and marketing in 2026, it added.
