HyTerra opens Kansas hydrogen data to three US universities
In the UK, Fuel Cells Works reported that HyTerra collaborate with research teams from three US universities selected through the Chimaera Fund’s Geologic Hydrogen Site Access Challenge on studies using exploration data and samples from the company’s Kansas activities to investigate geologic hydrogen generation, migration and accumulation.
The report noted that HyTerra will work directly with the research teams and receive early and ongoing access to their data, analysis and findings as the work progresses, ahead of broader publication. This will allow emerging research insights to be assessed alongside HyTerra’s own exploration, testing and laboratory results and incorporated into its technical framework and prospect-ranking criteria.
The selected teams are from Texas A&M University, the University of Texas at Austin and the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. They will investigate how conventional wireline logs may be used to identify prospective hydrogen-generating or hydrogen-bearing intervals; the hydrogen-generation potential of different Mid-Continent Rift rock types; the rates at which hydrogen may be generated from those rocks; and how geological, geochemical and well data can be integrated to improve models of hydrogen generation, migration and accumulation.
The research will be conducted over the next 12 months, with findings intended to be published openly, according to the report.
