OMV to proceed with $688 million Austrian hydrogen plant after Masdar exit
In Austria, Yahoo Finance reported that OMV has announced that it will continue developing its planned $688 million green hydrogen facility in Austria on its own, despite the withdrawal of its partner, Masdar.
United Arab Emirates-based Masdar had been set to invest several hundred million dollars in the project. However, it has now exited the venture due to what OMV cited as “strategic changes in Abu Dhabi”, according to a statement.
The hydrogen production plant, due to be located in Bruck an der Leitha, Lower Austria, was initially announced as a joint venture in November last year.
OMV and Masdar had signed a binding agreement to finance, construct and operate the 140MW electrolysis facility, the report said.
Construction of the facility started in September 2025, with operations expected to begin in 2027. Once operational, the plant will have the capacity to produce up to 23,000 tons per annum (tpa) of green hydrogen, it added.
