Argentine industry demands Senate to push new combined biofuels law forward
The CAA brings together organizations from corn, sugar cane, oil industry, biofuels, cereal stock exchanges and trade and cooperatives, among other sectors. In the letter addressed to the senators, they asked to grant “soon treatment on the compound” to the opinion to move towards their final sanction.
The claim comes just days after the Senate managed to unify 7 initiatives in a ruling. The file 809/26, presented by Patricia Bullrich and other senators, obtained joint office on September 3 and was incorporated into the Agenda 362/26, although still pending treatment in the enclosure.
One of the main changes is in the mandatory mixing percentages. Biodiesel would initially maintain the current cut of 7.5%, but would rise to 10% at 12 months of the law. In bioethanol, the cut would go from the current 12% to 15% in the same term.
The project also establishes a transition for non-integrated biodiesel SMEs, with a reserved participation within the mandatory market for several years, while progressively expanding the segment subject to competition between integrated and non-integrated companies.
For the entities that promote the initiative, the central point is that the new regulation would allow to give greater predictability to an activity that needs long-term investments. In their presentation they mentioned a horizon of 15 years, in addition to the possibility of developing new markets and products related to biofuels, such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and maritime biofuels.
They also highlighted the impact on the use of agro-industrial raw materials, value aggregation at origin, employment and regional economies, in addition to the contribution of biofuels to emission reductions and the energy transition.
