France lines up second hydrogen subsidy auction
In the UK, Fuel Cells Works reported that France is preparing to open the second round of its national support scheme for renewable and low-carbon hydrogen production, with support available for another 250MW of electrolyzer capacity.
The Directorate General for Energy and Climate (DGEC) said the launch was “imminent,” with eligible candidates expected to be identified in early September. Those selected will then be invited to submit final bids before the end of 2026.
Run by the DGEC and administered by ADEME, the program provides support for hydrogen produced by water electrolysis and used directly by industry. Contracts run for 15 years, while bids are subject to a support ceiling of $4.67 per kilogram of hydrogen, according to the report.
France completed the first round in July, awarding $856 million in 15-year support to three projects covering 161.4MW of eligible electrolysis capacity.
