B8 moves forward with $291M wheat-based ethanol facility

September 1, 2026 |

In Brazil, the Journal do Comercio reports Be8 presented updates of the industrial project of R$ 1.5 billion that is being developed in Passo Fundo. According to the company’s president, Erasmo Battistella, about 80% of the works have already been carried out. The forecast for the start of manufacturing operations continues to be estimated for next March, although raw material storage begins earlier, at the end of 2026.

The project is expected to favor the winter crops of Rio Grande do Sul. Especially, wheat — which can have a 20% increase in production to meet the demand generated by the plant — and triticale. A specific wheat cultivar was even developed to be used in the project, BS Ethanol 8. In partnership with Biotrigo Genetics, it was created specifically with high levels of starch and protein to meet the industrial production of ethanol and DDGS. And it will already be possible to market the current crop grown in gaucho territory.
