USDA reports crop progress in new report
In Iowa, Successful Farming reported that the USDA published the 21st Crop Progress report of the 2026 growing season.
As of August 23, 86% of this year’s corn crop in the top 18 corn-growing states had reached the dough growth stage. That’s ahead of the five-year average of 82%, according to the report.
As of August 23, 45% of the crop across all 18 states had reached the dent growth stage, ahead of the five-year average of 41%.
Across 13 states, 6% of the crop had reached the mature stage, the same as the five-year average.
As of August 23, 91% of the soybean crop in the nation’s top 18 soybean-growing states had reached the setting pods stage. That’s ahead of the five-year average of 88%.
As of August 23, 6% of soybeans across 14 states were dropping leaves. The five-year average is 4%, the report added.
