August 25, 2026 |

In Brazil, the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) approved financing in the amount of R$ 123.6 million for Toyota do Brasil to build its Technology Development Center for Biofuels in Sorocaba (SP). The project was selected by the BNDES and the Financier of Studies and Projects (FINEP) notice, launched in 2025, to support proposals for attraction, implementation or expansion of research, development and innovation (RD&I) centers.

With the resources of the BNDES Mais Inovação program, the center will expand Toyota’s ability to carry out, in Brazil, research activities, calibration, validation, functional testing and continuous development of embedded solutions. The new unit mobilizes local technical capacity for the development of technologies for flex hybrid vehicles and consolidates the company’s national innovation capacity.

The installation of the new center in Brazil is based on the experience accumulated by the country in biofuels and flex engines. Toyota’s development of technologies will have a greater participation of Brazilian engineering. With the investment, the company will expand its research capacity, enabling studies of high technological complexity and involving national engineering, the supply chain and the training of skills in low-emission technologies.
