European Energy and Mitsui sign renewable e-methanol offtake deal with OMV

August 20, 2026 |

In Denmark, European Energy and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. have signed, through their joint venture Solar Park Kassø (SPK), a multi-year offtake agreement with OMV for renewable e-methanol produced at the Kassø e-methanol facility in Aabenraa, Denmark. The agreement adds one of Europe’s major integrated energy, fuels and chemicals companies to the growing group of industrial companies sourcing e-methanol from Kassø.

The e-methanol supplied under the agreement will be EU-certified as a Renewable Fuel of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO). The agreement includes requirements for greenhouse gas emissions savings significantly above the minimum threshold for RFNBO compliance, demonstrating Kassø’s ability to supply renewable fuels with a substantially lower carbon footprint than their fossil-based alternatives and in compliance with the newly implemented third European renewable energy directive (RED III) for road transport in several European countries.
