Norwegian Hydrogen’s Hellesylt site gets RFNBO certification

August 20, 2026 |

In Bulgaria, Renewables Now reported that Norwegian Hydrogen has secured certification confirming that the renewable hydrogen produced at its Hellesylt Hydrogen Hub meets the EU’s requirements for Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO).

The RFNBO certification was issued on July 31 by ISCC – the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification, the company said recently. It makes Hellesylt Hydrogen Hub the first RFNBO-certified hydrogen production site in Norway, according to the report.

The certification means that hydrogen produced at Hellesylt now qualifies for applications, compliance markets and support schemes that require RFNBO-certified hydrogen under EU rules. As Europe’s hydrogen economy matures, it will enable Norwegian Hydrogen to supply renewable hydrogen to customers in regulated markets, the company said.
