Jidong Oilfield launches geothermal-biogas steam project
In China, Think Geoenergy reports Jidong Oilfield has begun operating a hybrid geothermal and biogas facility in Dongying, Shandong, designed to reduce gas consumption for industrial steam production. Medium-depth geothermal water preheats boiler feedwater before biogas combustion produces superheated steam at 1.6 MPa and 250°C. The system can supply 74 metric tons of steam per hour and 1.18 million GJ of heat annually. Jidong estimates the project will save 40,300 tons of standard coal and cut carbon dioxide emissions by 87,300 tons annually, offering a model for scalable low-carbon industrial heating.
