RWE’s Lingen electrolysis plant sends hydrogen to Evonik chemical park
In Bulgaria, Renewables Now reported that German energy company RWE AG said its electrolysis facility in Lingen, Germany has produced first quantities of renewable hydrogen and they have been transported to Evonik’s chemical park in Marl for use in industrial production processes.
Initial hydrogen production and delivery took place as part of the ongoing commissioning process for RWE’s two 100-MW electrolysis plants in Lingen. The hydrogen has reached Marl via a 120-km pipeline network, operated by transmission system operators Nowega and OGE as well as Evonik subsidiary SYNEQT, which is one of the first sections of Germany’s planned core hydrogen network, according to the report.
The developments are part of the integrated GET H2 Nukleus hydrogen project, it added.
“With GET H2 Nukleus, our first hydrogen pipelines are now entering network operation. This is an important step in establishing a hydrogen economy in the region and in Germany,” OGE CEO Thomas Huewener said, adding that the project is creating foundations for the future market design and allowing for testing key processes such as network access, capacity booking and balancing under real operation conditions.
