India sells FCI rice to ethanol producers at discounted prices
In India, Outlook India reports the country’s Food Corporation of India supplied 6.35 million metric tons of rice to ethanol producers between June 2025 and June 2026 at prices nearly 40% below its average procurement cost, according to a government statement. The rice, valued at $1.5 billion, was sold under the Open Market Sale Scheme to support ethanol production, with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh receiving the largest volumes. The government gradually increased the subsidized sale price during the period while continuing to use surplus grain to expand domestic ethanol production.
