Steamship Authority resumes renewable diesel pilot
In Massachusetts, the Martha’s Vineyard Times newspaper reports the Steamship Authority has restarted its pilot program using RD99 renewable diesel to fuel its largest ferry, the Island Home, after supply constraints delayed the project. The ferry operator approved an unbudgeted $165,000 purchase of 200,000 gallons of fuel for use through the end of 2026. While RD99 costs about 83 cents more per gallon than conventional diesel, officials said it can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% to 78% and help Massachusetts meet its climate goals. The authority will continue evaluating the fuel before considering wider fleet adoption.
